Title
Louisa County Courthouse 1818
Subject
Courthouse in Louisa 1818
Description
This was the third courthouse used by Louisa County. Built in 1818, it was the courthouse in use during the Civil War when Union troops raided courthouse records.
The 1862 tax records for Louisa County were discovered in 2009 in Newburgh New York, presumably taken from the courthouse by a Federal Soldier during one of the raids during the war. Digital images of the tax records have been donated to the Louisa County Historical Society by The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay.
Just few years after this photo was taken, this courthouse was replaced by the structure which now stands on Courthouse Square
