Description

Normal schools provided training for teachers in the late 1880s and early 1900s. These schools lasted from six weeks to several months and provided a good overview of subjects to be taught in grammar schools. In addition, they provided teachers with the most modern methods for effective teaching.

The Normal School a the University of Virginia provided teacher preparation for a vast number of the early educations in the surrounding counties.

In the margin are three names indicating the persons circles in blue pen: Nicie Goodwin (Mrs. Benham), Lina Goodwin (Mrs. Vaden) and Catherine Faunteroy Francisco.
