Abundance to wood, cheap labor, and access to the railroad for shipment of products made Bumpass an ideal location for small industries such as this. Just up the tracks was another enterprise, the Grasberger Spoon Company, which made small wooden ice cream spoons shipped all over the United States. If you purchased ice cream from a vendor in early 1900s, you may well have eaten that ice cream with a spoon made in Louisa County.
