Description

This series began as the result of a massive project established by the staff members of the Methodist Publishing House in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the growing concern for the thousands of men and women in the armed forces. They asked leaders in both the church and academia to contribute one-page devotions focused on the day-to-day spiritual and emotional needs for combat troops. The work, Strength for Service to God and Country, is comprised of the devotionals gifted by individuals from both the United States and abroad. The first edition, from which the following excerpts have been chosen, was published in 1942. By 1944, approximately 800,000 troops had received a copy of the book. (www.amvets.org)
