September 16th 1836:
This day set off from Green Springs Valley, Louisa County, State of Virginia, for the land of the Missouri
and arrived Lindsay's Store about night where we encamped This night has proven a most stormy one, the rain poured in torrents and literally drenched our beds and most of our clothes, but from the old saying I hope the ultimate turn of this adventure will be more propitious then the commencement.
