Mileage Ration Stamps and Folder

These items, part of the Harris family collection, were given to individuals during World War II with the onset of mileage and gasoline rationing. The United States Office of Price Administration (OPA), through local War Price and Rationing Boards, implemented mandatory mileage and gasoline rationing, which began on May 15, 1942. Stamps such as these allowed drivers to receive a particular amount of gasoline per stamp; there were several different letters, which signified classification, dictating the amount. In this case the letter was “T’, which meant the vehicle was a truck. These stamps and their folder were administered to Mr. J.F. Harris for use between January 1 and March 31, 1945.
