Description

Adam Toler, born in 1766, took detailed notes in a ledger book throughout his education. In a linen-covered notebook, there are comments regarding measurements in many different subjects, including time, the division of money and crops, simple interest, barter, and decimals. On the first page, several years are listed, though all within the years of 1782 to 1790, and Adam Toler’s name is written in various places throughout the book. The document provides information regarding early education in Louisa County.
Adam Toler, a Louisa County resident, married a Mary Pottie in 1789, formerly Mary Jerdone, as her first husband died in 1786. Together they had four children, excluding the one Mary had with her previous husband.
