William Jackson Walton served as the Superintendent of the Jackson District from 1871 until 1884 when he became one of the earliest Superintendents of Schools in Louisa County. As Superintendent, Walton kept records of how many schools were in each district ("white" and "colored"), and he also kept a list of how many students were in each school. This document is that list of the schools in each district. In each district, the "colored" and "white" schools were divided in a nearly even half. For eaxmple, in the Jackson District, there were 10 white schools and 9 colored schools.
